CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team earned the first win of their 2023 season with a 3-2 comeback win over non-conference opponent Linfield on Sunday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 1-4 overall.
The Sagehens were led by
Alex Greenstein who netted a brace with two goals in the win.
Kieran Veloria also got on the scoresheet with a goal while Aidan McLennan added an assist on Veloria's goal.
Although the Sagehens came out on top, Pomona-Pitzer did not get off to a good start as the Wildcats scored the opening goal of the match just about three minutes into the contest.
Pomona-Pitzer fought back and tied the game in the 12
th minute as a flick on by McLennan played Veloria in who beat the keeper to the lower left side for his first collegiate goal of his career.
After evening the score, the Sagehens would go on and take the lead after a handball was called in the box off of a shot from Greenstein to award the Sagehens a penalty kick. Greenstein took the ball to the spot and converted the PK to put the Sagehens up 2-1 in the 37
th minute.
Linfield came back to score an equalizer in the second half after a mistake by the Sagehen defense allowed a gift of a goal to tie the game at 2-2 in the 54
th minute.
Greenstein went on to score the game-winner in the 61
st minute for his brace after receiving the ball in the box, taking a touch and a turn and beat the keeper with his left foot to put Pomona-Pitzer back on top 3-2.
The Sagehens controlled the game from that point on and were able to claim their first win of the season at home over Linfield.
