Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Sagehens Fall To Pepperdine And Wagner To End Gary Troyer

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team finished Gary Troyer 1-3 with a 17-8 loss to No. 4 Pepperdine and an 11-6 loss over Wagner on Saturday at Haldeman Pool. 
 
Season Impact: After the tournament, the Sagehens sit at 3-12 overall. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer vs Pepperdine
 
The Sagehens were led by Kyle Green and Zach Whitfield who both scored two in the loss. Zachary Kaplan, Indigo Lee, Chase Barman, and Andrew Plaschke all chipped in with one goal as well. 
 
The Waves opened the scoring early in the first with a quick answer from the Sagehens as Green converted a penalty shot to make it 1-1. Pepperdine then went on to score four unanswered goals to end the first quarter taking a 5-1 lead heading into the second. 
 
Whitfield got the Sagehens back on the board with the first goal of the second quarter before the Waves responded with three straight goals to open up an 8-2 advantage.  Lee found the back of the net off of a powerplay to cut the deficit down to 8-3 with the Sagehens first goal from open play with both teams adding another as Whitfield brought the score to 9-4. The Sagehens and Waves continued to alternate goals to end the first half as Kaplan and Plaschke found the back of the net to make it 11-6 Pepperdine heading into halftime. 
 
The Sagehens earned two more goals in the third as Green and Whiting found the back of the net while the Waves added three more to their total to take a 14-8 lead into the fourth. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer struggled to find goals in the fourth as they were shut out by the Waves to drop the first game of day two, 17-8 to No. 4 Pepperdine. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer vs Wagner 
 
The Sagehens were led by Zach Whitfield who netted a hat-trick with three goals in the loss. Patrick Hughes, Chase Barman, and Conrad Hugar all had one goal each as well.
 
Whitfield got the scoring going for Pomona-Pitzer with two of the first three goals of the game to give the Sagehens a 2-1 lead at the end of the first.
 
Wagner took over during the second quarter as they scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead into halftime.
 
Pomona-Pitzer battled back to open the second half with three straight goals from Hugar, Barman, and Whitfield to tie the game at 5-5, but Wagner fired back with three straight goals of their own to go back on top 8-5 heading into the fourth.
 
Wager started the fourth with two goals in the first three minutes to put the game on ice at 10-5. Hughes netted a fourth-quarter goal for the Sagehens, but the offense couldn't come alive late as the Sagehens fell in the final game of the Gary Troyer Tournament.
