CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell in the Sixth Street Rivalry to CMS 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 2-5-3 overall and 1-3-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Aidan MacLennan who netted the only goal of the game for the Sagehens with an assist from
Adam Leikin.
CMS outshot the Sagehens 14-5 throughout the game with the only shot on goal for the Sagehens being the goal. CMS registered nine corner kicks in the game with the Sagehens earning two and three yellow cards in the game between the two teams with CMS getting one and the Sagehens picking up two.
A very hard-fought Sixth Street Rivalry between two teams needing points in the SCIAC standings. The Sagehens and Stags played a very physical first half with both teams desperate to get a go-ahead goal early in the game, but neither team could come up with a goal as the two teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.
The scoring picked up in the second half as the Stags scored first with the ball headed on to an open CMS attacker to snuck the ball near post to take a 1-0 lead.
After CMS took the lead in the 55
th minute, the Sagehens literally wasted no time as they scored just seconds later after a throw-in by Leikin found the feet of MacLennan who put in a perfect curling shot into the side netting to tie the game back up at 1-1.
With the game looking to head towards a draw, the Stags snuck in a game-winner as a low cross from the left wing found an open player in the box and a short shot beat the keeper as the Stags stole a win late in the Sixth Street Rivalry.
