SAN ANTONIO, TX. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell to Trinity 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Paul McGinlay Field.
The Sagehens were led by
Marvin Heilbronn and
Keyon Namdar who each scored a goal in the loss while
Brendan Kish added an assist off the Namdar goal. Ethan Bar got the start in goal and picked up the loss but had eight saves for the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer got out to a hot start with a goal in the opening two minutes of the game as Heilbronn netted a screaming off of a blocked shot that nestled into the side of the goal to put the Sagehens up 1-0 early.
Trinity responded with a goal in the 24
th minute as a turnover in the Sagehens' defensive third led to a scramble by Bae that gave Trinity an open shot at goal for the equalizer.
Both teams went into halftime tied at 1-1 but the Sagehens went ahead again as Kish won the ball down the right side and played in a low cross that Namdar hit first time past the keeper to put the Sagehens back on top 2-1.
The lead lasted just minutes as Trinity came back with a pair of controversial goals in rapid succession. The Tigers were gifted an indirect free kick from feet in front of goal after a back pass to the goalkeeper was called off of a miskick from a Sagehen defender. With that, the Tigers had a point-blank shot for a goal that was converted for the 2-2 score.
The game-winner for the Tigers came about a minute later after an initial save from Bae was played back in front of goal and a first-time strike from an attacker who appeared to be offside when the original shot was taken went into the back of the net for the goal.
The Sagehens tried to rally for a late equalizer but failed to net a third as they fell to Trinity on the road 3-2.
