CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team came back to beat SCIAC opponent Redlands 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens stay perfect at 9-0 overall and improve to 5-0 In SCIAC play.
The Sagehens had three different goal scorers as
Brooke Bailey,
Eliana Prosnitz, and
Amanda Khu all got on the scoresheet while Prosnitz also earned an assist off of Bailey's first collegiate goal of her career.
Pomona-Pitzer pelted the Redlands' goal with shots after going behind early in the game. The Sagehens outshot Redlands 37-3. The Sagehens also had five corners and none for the Bulldogs.
The Sagehens played well in the first half but struggled to finish their chances inside the box. The Sagehens had 11 shots in the first half with five on target, but Redlands was the team who struck first as they caught the Sagehen defense out and converted a nice counterattack to take a 1-0 lead in the 16
th minute on the road.
Pomona-Pitzer had their chances to equalize in the first half but couldn't find the back of the net as they went into halftime trailing for the first time this season.
The second half was a different story as the Sagehens came out like a team on fire and pushed their attack deep into Redlands territory in the early minutes of the second half. After holding off the Sagehens for the first 20 minutes, the Sagehens broke through in the 66
th minute as Bailey put in a rebound off a save from a Prosnitz shot to even the game at 1-1.
The Sagehens went on to score the game-winner under a minute later after a long ball from the backline from
Taylor Marshall made its way in front of the goal and after a bad clear by the Redlands' defender, Prosnitz dribbled around the keeper and tapped it in to give the Sagehens a 2-1 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to net their third in the 70
th minute as Khu rocketed a shot at the keeper that was saved back into play, but another follow-up attempt by Khu beat the keeper across goal to put the Sagehens on top 3-0 over the Bulldogs.
The Sagehens trailed early but made up for it with a big second half that featured three goals as the Sagehens completed the comeback win over Redlands at home.
