Sagehens Get First Win Of MPSF, 21-8 Over Whittier

LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team earned their first victory of the season with a 21-8 win over Whittier on Sunday morning at the Spieker Aquatics Center.
 
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 1-8 overall.
 
The Sagehens were led by Andrew Plaschke who netted three goals in the win for the hat-trick. Jacob Whiting, Chase Barman, Miles Chiang, Tommy Ryan, and Jack Ryan all had two goals while Zach Whitfield, Conrad Hugar, Julian Montoya, Indigo Lee, Patrick Hughes, Dillon Joyce, Zachary Kaplan, and Hudson Schneider all had one goal each.
 
Plaschke got the Sagehens out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter before the Poets made a run of three-straight goals to take their first lead of the game at 3-2. Kaplan and Lee ended the first with goals to put the Sagehens back on top at 4-3 heading into the second quarter.
 
Pomona-Pitzer had a big scoring second as they netted six goals before halftime. The Poets scored two quick goals in the second to reclaim the lead, but the Sagehens went on a run of three-straight as Hugar scored and two more from Barman.  The Poets responded with back-to-back goals, but the Sagehens answered again with three more goals to end the half as Hughes, Whiting, and Ryan put the Sagehens up 10-7 heading into halftime.
 
The Sagehens broke the game open in the third after they outscored the Poets 7-1 in the quarter. Pomona-Pitzer added six in a row to start the third with goals from Chiang, Whitfield, Plaschke, Schneider, and Ryan before Whittier broke the streak with a goal.  The Sagehens added one more before the third quarter ended from Ryan to take a commanding 17-8 lead into the fourth.
 
With the game well in hand, the Sagehens continued to build their lead and shut out the Poets in the fourth quarter. Joyce, Whiting Ryan, and Montoya got on the scoresheet in the fourth as the Sagehens earned their first win in a big way with the win over Whittier.
