Sagehens Fall Short Against Santa Clara At MPSF Tournament

LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team fell to Santa Clara 11-8 on Saturday morning at the Spieker Aquatics Center.

Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 0-8 on the year.

The Sagehens were led by Kyle Green who had the only multi-goal game for Pomona-Pitzer with two goals in the loss. Maxim Koretsky, Jacob Whiting, Zachary Kaplan, Chase Barman Conrad Hugar and Andrew Plaschke all chipped in with one goal as well.

Pomona-Pitzer got out to a slow start as they were shut out in the first quarter while Santa Clara netted five goals in the first to take an early five-goal lead. The Broncos opened the second quarter with a goal to make it 6-0 before the Sagehens got their first goal of the game by Green with 5:21 left before halftime. Santa Clara responded with a goal but the Sagehens got some momentum heading into halftime as Plaschke and Kaplan found the back of the net to make it 7-3 at the break.

Pomona-Pitzer went on to open the second half with a goal to cut the deficit down to three at 7-4 with a goal from Hugar, but Santa Clara came back with three-straight to open the lead back up to 10-4 heading into the fourth.

The Sagehens controlled the fourth quarter as they outscored Santa Clara 4-1 to climb back into the game. Barman opened the fourth with a goal while Whiting, Koretsky and Green also got on the scoresheet in the fourth, but the Broncos built too big of a lead early on as they were able to hold off the Sagehens and come away with the win.

Up Next: The Sagehens will have one more game in the MPSF Tournament on Sunday against an opponent to be named from the results of games this afternoon.
