Sagehens Draw With Chapman At Home, 2-2

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team came away with a 2-2 draw against SCIAC foe Chapman on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.

Season Impact: With the draw, the Sagehens improved to 2-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in SCIAC play.

Niclas Ulrich and Keyon Namdar led the Sagehens, who both netted goals in the draw.

A hard-fought battle between two teams in need of points in the SCIAC early in the season saw its fair share of contact between the Sagehens and the Panthers. 16 fouls for Chapman and 13 fouls for Pomona-Pitzer with three total yellow cards. Chapman took 13 shots with 7 on goal with the Sagehens firing off 8 shots, 4 on goal. Chapman also dominated corner kick with 9 total while the Sagehens didn't have a single corner in the game.

The Panthers got out to a lead in the first half as they broke open the scoring in the 32nd minute of the match to take a 1-0 lead.  Chapman scored the only goal of the first half and went into halftime with a goal advantage.

Pomona-Pitzer scored the equalizer in the 69th minute off of a free-kick from Ulrich that snuck into the bottom left corner to tie the game at 1-1.

The Sagehens went on to take the lead just four minutes later as they broke the Panthers' backline and found themselves on a breakaway. Jeffrey Tiglon laid a through ball to Namdar whose initial shot was saved but a rebounded shot by Namdar found the back of the net to give the Sagehens a 2-1 lead.

However, the Sagehens' lead was short-lived as the Panthers came back for their equalizer just three minutes later off of a throw-in that was taken quickly with a shot and found the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2 with 15 minutes to play.

Both teams had an opportunity to steal the points in the final minutes of the match, but neither team could find their third as the Sagehens and Panthers ended in a draw.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next travel to Redlands on Wednesday, September 27th at 7:00 p.m.
