Sagehens Fall To No. 3 USC At MPSF Tournament

LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team fell to No. 3 USC 18-8 to start the MPSF Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.

: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 0-7 to start the year.
 
The Sagehens were led by Maxim Koretsky who netted a hat-trick against the Trojans with three goals in the loss. Kyle Green and Conrad Hugar both netted two each and Nico Perna had one.
 
USC got out to a quick start with the first three goals of the game to take an early lead. Koretsky got on the board for the Sagehens with 4:02 left in the first while the Trojans and Sagehens alternated goals to end the first as Green scored during the final seconds as the Sagehens trailed 5-2 at the end of the first.
 
USC started the second quarter with a goal and a response from the Sagehens from Hugar, but the Trojans went on to score the final six goals of the half to take an 11-3 lead into halftime.
 
Pomona-Pitzer had its best scoring quarter in the third after they netted three goals from Hugar, Koretsky and Green, but the Sagehens still faced a 16-6 deficit heading into the fourth.
 
The Sagehens went goal for goal with USC in the fourth as Perna and Koretsky notched goals in the final eight minutes, but the Sagehens ultimately fell to the division 1 powerhouse, 18-8.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will take on Santa Clara in the MPSF on Saturday, September 23rd at 11:00 a.m.
