Sagehens Fall To Oxy in High-Scoring Affair

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell to SCIAC opponent Occidental 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.

Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 2-4-1 overall and 1-3 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens had three different goal scorers as Niclas Ulrich, Aidan MacLennan, and Chris Chow found the back of the net with assists from Sean Donovan, Jeffrey Tiglon and Keyon Namdar.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead within the first two minutes of the match after a cross to the back post was headed in by the Tigers' attacker to make the Sagehens play from behind early in the contest.

Occidental doubled their lead just about five minutes later after a long ball into the Sagehens' defensive third was won by the Oxy striker, who beat the keeper one-on-one to make it 2-0 in just the seventh minute of the match.

Occidental made it 3-0 with their third goal of the first half in the 22nd minute. The Tigers won the ball back in the midfield and pushed it into the Sagehens' box to beat the keeper down the middle to put the Sagehens in a deep hole trailing 3-0 in the first half.

Despite being down big, the Sagehens battled back with a goal in the 25th minute as they took advantage of a mistake by the Occidental midfield that allowed Tiglon to find a good through ball to MacLennan who blasted a ball to the upper 90 to cut the deficit down to 3-1 heading into halftime.

Occidental scored the first goal of the second half, but the Sagehens followed up with the next two goals to cut the lead down to 4-3 with 15 minutes to play.

Ulrich headed in a nice cross from Sean Donovan in the 68th minute and Chow got his first goal as a Sagehen off of a corner by Namdar as the Sagehens found themselves down one goal at home in the 76th minute.

After trying to find the equalizer in the second half, Occidental ended up putting the game away in the 85th minute with a goal as the Sagehens fell at home to the Tigers in a high-scoring affair.
