CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team continued their undefeated start to the season with a 6-0 win over Caltech on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 6-0 overall and start out 2-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens had six different goal scorers as
Eliana Prosnitz,
Spencer Deutz,
Hannah Hong,
Amanda Khu,
Kendrick Dahlin and
Anjali Nuggehalli all found the back of the net while Hong added two assists and
Ella Endo,
Isla Burch,
Ayehu Clements, and
Kelsey Shintaku all had one.
The SCIAC giants opened up their home SCIAC season against Caltech and put on a show for the supporters on Saturday afternoon. The Sagehens got going early as Prosnitz opened the scoring in the ninth minute after a lob ball over the top of the defense from Hong sprung Prosnitz free. Prosnitz went on to chip the keeper to get the Sagehens out to a 1-0 lead.
Khu joined Prosnitz in the goal column just over a minute later after another lob pass from Hong gave Khu a one-on-one to double the lead at 2-0 early in the first half.
Pomona-Pitzer had three more goals before the halftime whistle as Hong got on the scoring end of a ball in the 20
th minute after a rebound from an Endo shot gave her a tap-in for the third score of the match.
Dahlin got in on the action after coming on as a first half sub and made her presence felt with a good back post run into the box that was found by a low cross from Shintaku and guided into the back of the net to extend the lead to 4-0 in the 36
th minute.
The final score of the first half came by way of a penalty that was drawn by Nuggehalli. Nuggehalli took the ball to the spot and converted the first penalty kick of her career to go along with her first collegiate goal to send Pomona-Pitzer to halftime with a 5-0 advantage.
The Sagehens continued to dominate possession in the second half but only added one more score to their total as Deutz scored off of a nice one-two passing set up by Burch and Clements to cap off the scoring for Pomona-Pitzer as they dominated Caltech in their SCIAC home opener.
