CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team defeated non-conference opponent UC Santa Cruz 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens start the year 3-1 overall.
The Sagehens took all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles play. Lucas Chen and Andrew Tjoa were defeated by Mukund Madabhushi and Hayden Snyder in the #1 doubles match with a score of 4-8. Andre Mardirossian and Sam Hall were also defeated by Matthew Feng and Eshaan Lumba in the #2 doubles match with a score of 7-8. Praneet Varade and Ryan Lam were defeated by Kush Patel and Owen Kelley in the #3 doubles match with a score of 3-8.
In singles, the Sagehens continued their strong performance, winning five out of six matches. Lucas Chen was defeated by Hayden Snyder in the #1 singles match with a score of 2-6, 3-6. Andre Mardirossian was also defeated by Mukund Madabhushi in the #2 singles match with a score of 4-6, 6-7. However, Praneet Varade managed to win against Ethan Lee in the #4 singles match with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 7-6.
The remaining singles matches were won by the Sagehens. In the #3 singles match, Sam Hall was defeated by Kush Patel with a score of 6-2, 7-6, 5-7. In the #5 singles match, Ryan Lam was defeated by Neil Chulani with a score of 6-7, 3-6. Finally, in the #6 singles match, Andrew Tjoa of UCSC was defeated by Luke Feng with a score of 5-7, 4-6.
