THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team opened up SCIAC play with a 7-2 win against Cal Lutheran on Friday night.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens start SCIAC play 1-0 and improve to 2-1 overall.
The Sagehens started out the day winning all three of the doubles matches to get out to a 3-0 lead. Owen Kelley and Kush Patel started out with a win at No. 2 doubles 8-0 followed by Mukund Madabhushi and Hayden Snyder at the No. 1 position with an 8-3 victory. Pomona-Pitzer completed the sweep after Luke Feng and Neil Chulani edged out an 8-7 (7-5) tiebreaker to give the Sagehens a three-point cushion heading into singles play.
The Sagehens earned wins at four of the six singles matches against the Kingsmen. Ethan Lee took a straight-set win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory while every other match went into a third set. Chulani earned a win at No. 4 singles 4-6. 6-4, 6-1 while Patel won at No. 3 singles 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 and Snyder won at No. 1 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 to end the day for the Sagehens.
