WHITTIER, CA. -- The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team defeated SCIAC opponent Whittier 21-5 on Wednesday night at Slade Aquatics Center.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 12-16 overall and 7-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Andrew Plaschke who netted a game-high four goals in the win. Five Other Sagehens had multi-goal games as Zachary Kaplan, Indigo Lee, Chase Barman, Conrad Hugar and Zach Whitfield all had two goals each while Hudson Schneider, Dillon Joyce, Jacob Whiting, Julian Montoya, Miles Chiang, Tommy Ryan and Jack Ryan all had one.
The Sagehens had no problem with the Poets in this game and jumped out to a huge lead with seven goals in the first quarter. The defense also shutout the Poets in the first and goals from Lee, Hugar, Chiang, Barman, Kaplan and Plaschke put the Sagehens up 7-0 heading into the second quarter.
Pomona-Pitzer kept pouring on the goals in the first half with six more while Whittier managed to get one behind the Sagehens goalie. Whitfield and Hugar got the opening lead up to 9-0 before the Poets scored their first goal of the game to make it 9-1. The Sagehens then ended the first half with four unanswered goals as Whiting, Joyce, Ryan, and Plaschke scored to make it a 13-1 lead at halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer only had two goals in the third quarter as Barman and Whitfield added their second goals of the game, but the offense came back to life in the fourth with six more goals to their total from Plaschke, Kaplan, Montoya, Schneider and Ryan as the Sagehens coasted to a big road victory over the Poets.
