THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team ended their regular season with an 11-9 win over SCIAC opponent Cal Lutheran on Saturday afternoon at the Samuelson Aquatics Center.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 14-17 overall and 9-3 in SCIAC play. The Sagehens end the regular season in third place and will advance to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
The Sagehens had five goal scorers with two as
Zachary Kaplan,
Indigo Lee,
Miles Chiang,
Andrew Plaschke, and
Jack Ryan shared a team-high while
Kyle Green had one in the win.
Cal Lutheran got out to an early lead at home with the first three goals of the first quarter to force the Sagehens to play from behind. The Sagehens cut into the lead with two late goals from Kaplan and Lee, but the Sagehens trailed 3-2 heading into the second quarter.
Cal Lutheran pushed their lead back to two goals with the first goal of the second quarter, but the Sagehens battled all the way back to erase the deficit with two goals from Plaschke before halftime to tie the score at 4-4 heading into the break.
Pomona-Pitzer had a huge third quarter where they shut out the Kingsmen in the third and managed to find the back of the net three times from Chiang, Ryan, and Lee to take a 7-4 lead into the fourth.
The Kingsmen and Sagehens alternated goals to start the fourth with gals from Chiang and Ryan, but the game was put to bed after the Sagehens scored back-to-back goals from Ryan and Green to take an 11-6 lead with 4:38 to go. Cal Lutheran scored three late goals, but the Sagehens already built a comfortable lead to hang on for the win.
