REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team came up short 12-8 in their SCIAC Semifinal game against Redlands on Friday night at the Thompson Aquatics Center.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens end the season at 14-18 overall and finish third place in the SCIAC this season.
The Sagehens were led by
Kyle Green and
Chase Barman who each netted two goals in the loss.
Nico Perna,
Indigo Lee,
Conrad Hugar, and
Zach Whitfield all had one goal as well.
Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands were close on shots with the Sagehens shooting 29 times and Redlands 28. The Sagehens shot at a .276 shot percentage and went 5-12 on their powerplays while Redlands shot at a .429 percentage and only converted 2-10 on their powerplays.
Redlands had the lead early on as they struck first out of the gate and outscored the Sagehens 3-1 in the first. Barman scored the only goal of the quarter for Pomona-Pitzer as they found themselves down 3-1 heading into the second.
Pomona-Pitzer came roaring back in the second as they scored back-to-back goals from Barman and Perna to tie the game at 3-3, but Redlands fired back with back-to-back goals of their own to take a 5-3 lead. Lee netted the final goal of the half for the Sagehens to cut the lead down to 5-4 but still trailed by one heading into the break.
The Bulldogs opened up the lead in the third after they outscored the Sagehens 4-2 in the third. Redlands took a 7-4 lead before Green and Whitfield got on the board, but the Sagehens faced a 9-6 deficit heading into the fourth.
Redlands scored first in the fourth to take a 10-6 lead. Hugar tried to spark a run for the Sagehens with a goal to make it 10-7, but Redlands kept responding with goals to prevent a Sagehen run as the Bulldogs took the semifinal win over the Sagehens.
