CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer defeated SCIAC opponent La Verne 7-0 on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 10-0-1 overall and 6-0-1 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens out in a season-high seven goals led by
Anjuli Turner and
Eliana Prosnitz who each had two.
Brooke Bailey,
Anjali Nuggehalli, and
Hannah Hong also netted goals while Prosnitz,
Kendrick Dahlin,
Spencer Deutz,
Ayehu Clements, and
Rae Kamikawa had assists.
Before the game, the Sagehens honored their four seniors playing in one of the final home games of their career with Summer, Hasama,
Evelyn Hasama,
Taryn Kaneko and
Kelsey Shintaku all being honored before kickoff.
La Verne kept it close for about 30 minutes into the first half with the score still tied at 0-0, but the Sagehens started the goal parade just before halftime with three in three minutes.
Prosnitz scored the first goal of the game unassisted to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead in the 36
th minute then Bailey found the back of the net off an assist from Dahlin, and Turner scored her first goal of the season from a pass from Deutz as the Sagehens took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer got back to its scoring ways in the second half as Nuggehalli put in curling goal from a very difficult angle to push the lead to 4-0 in the 55
th minute while Prosnitz doubled her goals in the 64
th minute off of a feed from Clements to make it 5-0 in the 64
th minute.
The Sagehens added two more as Hong scored in the 71
st minute from an assist from Dahlin and Turner found her second just over a minute later from Kamikawa as the Sagehens put on a show for their Senior Day with the 7-0 victory.
