Sagehens End Harvard Invite With Loss To Brown And Win Over Connecticut College

PROVIDENCE, RI. -- The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team split their second day of the Harvard Invitational with a 13-9 loss to Brown and a 15-6 win over Connecticut College on Sunday afternoon at the Katherine Moran Aquatics Center.  

Season Impact: With the split, the Sagehens move to 7-14 overall.  

Pomona-Pitzer 9, Brown 13  

The Sagehens were led by Kyle Green who had four of their nine goals in the loss. Indigo Lee had a multi-goal game as well with two while Jacob Whiting, Chase Barman, and Zach Whitfield had one each.  

Pomona-Pitzer got out to a good start in the first with the first two goals of the game from Lee and Green to take an early 2-0 lead after the first quarter.  

Brown took over the game in the second quarter after they outscored the Sagehens 6-1. Brown scored six-straight goals in the second before the Sagehens got their lone goal of the quarter from Whiting as they trailed 6-3 heading into halftime.  

Brown also started the second half with a goal to push their lead to 7-1 before the Sagehens fired back with a goal from Barman. After another Brown goal, the Sagehens came back with three-straight goals from Whitfield and two from Green to cut the deficit down to one at 8-7 heading into the fourth quarter.  

Brown added two goals to give themselves some breathing room to start the fourth with a 10-7 lead. Lee and Green tried to keep the Sagehens in it with goals in the fourth, but Brown was able to hold off the Sagehens after their big second quarter for the win.  

Pomona-Pitzer 15, Connecticut College 6  

The Sagehens were led by Whiting and Andrew Plaschke who each netted a hat-trick with three goals in the win. Conrad Hugar had two goals while Dillon Joyce, Barman, Whitfield, Miles Chiang, Schoenwald, and Jacob Shimon had one.  

The Sagehens and Camels had a big scoring first quarter with each team netting four goals. The two teams alternated goals to start with Whitfield, Barman, Jack Ryan, Plaschke and Schoenwald scoring early to take a 4-4 score into the second.  

Pomona-Pitzer dominated the second quarter after they shutout the Camels in the second and put four more goals on the board to open up the lead in the first half. Hugar, Whiting, Plaschke, and Ryan netted goals in the second quarter to give the Sagehens an 8-4 lead at the break.  

The Camels opened the second half with a goal, but Chiang, Whiting and Joyce scored three-straight to extend the lead to 11-5 with just under three minutes to play in the third.  

Pomona-Pitzer controlled the second half and piled on more goals in the fourth after Hugar, Whiting, Plaschke and Shimon scored to end the Harvard Invitational with a win.  

Up Next: The Sagehens will next head to Chapman on Wednesday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m.
