CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell to SCIAC opponent La Verne 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 2-6-5 overall and 1-4-4 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Jeffery Tiglon who scored the only goal of the game in the 2-1 loss with
Mattin Khoshzaban picking up the assist.
A very even game from a statistical point of view as La Verne had 18 shots to the Sagehens' 14 with 10 on target for La Verne and 7 for Pomona-Pitzer. La Verne had 6 corners with Pomona-Pitzer coming away with 5 and the game saw four cards, four for La Verne and one for the Sagehens.
All the scoring was done in the first half between the two teams with the Sagehens actually jumping out to a lead after 21 minutes of play. Pomona-Pitzer got on the board in the 21
st minute as Tiglon finished off a ball that was headed into the box by Khoshzaban to put the Sagehens on top.
The lead only lasted two minutes long though as La Verne came back with a goal off of a low cross and a header into the back of the net to even the game at 1-1. The Leopards went on to take the lead in the 28
th minute on another breakaway opportunity with a low cross hit first time to beat the keeper to put La Verne up 2-1 heading into halftime.
The Sagehens had a few chances in the second half to score an equalizer as well as La Verne to widen their lead, but neither team could come away with any goals as the Sagehens fell by one at home.
