CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team fell to SCIAC opponent Chapman 21-0 on Saturday night at Merritt Field.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in SCIAC play.
Nick Kim got his first start at quarterback and went 27-41 with 250 yards passing with two interceptions and a lost fumble.
Quinten Wimmer led the receiving core in his return to play with four catches for 83 yards while Kenric Jamison had 54 yards off of nine catches.
Thomas McConnell led the defense with nine total tackles including a sack while
Thali Cobb also registered a sack in the loss.
Turnovers killed the Sagehens in their matchup against the Panthers after they turned the ball over four times, all in Chapman territory. The Panthers rushed for 315 yards and only 50 passing yards while the Sagehens had -30 rushing yards and 260 passing yards.
Key Moments:
- Chapman got the first score of the game after they completed an 11-play, 65-yard drive with a seven-yard touchdown pass with 3:25 left in the first quarter.
- The Sagehens turned the ball over on their next possession after a pass tipped out of the hands of Brennan Dragomer and into the arms of a Panther to stall out the Sagehens' drive.
- Chapman converted off of the turnover and went 36 yards for the score to double their lead at 14-0 to end the first quarter.
- The Sagehens were driving down the field but threw another interception tipped off of the hands of a receiver to give the Panthers the ball back.
- After keeping the ball back on offense, the Sagehens turned the ball over for the third time of the half with a strip sack fumble and went into halftime down 14-0.
- Chapman added their third touchdown of the night in the third quarter off a 43-yard quarterback run to make it 21-0 with 4:27 left in the third.
- The Sagehens drove all the way down the field and made it to the goal line, but a halfback pass was intercepted at the one-yard line to give the ball back to Chapman without coming away with any points.
- Chapman milked the clock in the second half and was able to wear out the Sagehens to come away with the win at Merritt Field.
