Sagehens Comeback To Draw With Cal Lutheran 2-2

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer Team came away with their second consecutive draw with a 2-2 tie against SCIAC opponent Cal Lutheran on Wednesday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.

Season Impact: With the draw, the Sagehens move to 2-5-5 overall and 1-3-4 in SCIAC play.

Keyon Namdar and Niclas Ulrich earned the goals for Pomona-Pitzer as Kyle Lau also returned to draw a penalty that led to the Ulrich goal.

Cal Lutheran outshot the Sagehens 17-10 and had eight corners to the Sagehens three. A chippy game between the two teams with 14 total fouls called and six yellow cards with each team picking up three.

The Sagehens escaped the majority of the first half without conceding a goal and even had two close chances cleared off of the line to keep the game scoreless.  Cal Lutheran went on to score the first goal of the day in the 43rd minute after the Sagehens looked to advance off of a goalkeeper throw, but the ball was quickly stolen and converted into a one-on-one chance to put the Kingsmen up 1-0 just before halftime.

Pomona-Pitzer came out in the second half with ground to make up and scored an equalizer just six minutes into the second half as Namdar headed in a cross from Brendan Kish to even the score at 1-1.

The Sagehens went on to take the lead in the 70th minute as Lau drew a penalty in the box to set up a penalty kick. Ulrich took the ball from the spot and slotted it into the right corner of the goal to put the Sagehens on top 2-1.

Cal Lutheran pushed hard for an equalizer as they spent a lot of time in the Sagehens' defensive third after going down 2-1. The Kingsmen found their equalizer off of a corner kick that was headed into the corner of the goal to make it 2-2 with just over 15 minutes to play.

The Kingsmen had a few late chances to get a game-winner, but the Sagehens' defense fended off the late attack as the Sagehens came away with the draw.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next SCIAC opponent La Verne on Saturday, October 14th at 4:00 p.m.
