Moser And Mullarkey Lead Sagehens Past Chapman, 87-75

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team earned their seventh-straight win of the season after an 87-75 win over Chapman on Wednesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 9-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

The Sagehens were led by Hayden Moser who notched his third-straight career-high performance in points leading the team with 19 in the win. Brendan Mora fell two assists shy of a triple-double after 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists while Peyton Mullarkey came off the bench for an impactful 16 points.

Pomona-Pitzer shot over 50% from the floor for just the second time this season at 51.6% and shot their second-highest percentage from three this season at 41.4%. The Sagehens also outrebounded Chapman 33-25 and tallied 15 second-chance points. The Sagehens' bench also played a big role after they outscored Chapman's bench 28-10.

The Sagehens got off to a hot start on offense while the Chapman shooters took some time to warm up in the first half. Pomona-Pitzer got out to a 12-0 start in the first four minutes of the game after a Ty Bergman and-one and extended the lead to as much as 22-6 after a pair of made free-throws by Haden Moser. Chapman started to get going midway through the half and cut the lead down to seven points 29-22 with 7:49 to play before halftime. The Panthers were able to cut into the big lead, but the Sagehens kept the lead at seven points and headed into halftime with a 45-38 lead. 

Chapman got the lead down to five at 53-48 with six minutes gone in the second half, but the Sagehens responded immediately after with a three from Mullarkey and a jumper by Joe Cookson to put the Sagehens back up 10 at 58-48.  The Sagehens continued to build their lead and got it to 68-52 with 10:06 left to play.  The Panthers made a late run to cut it back down to 10 at 77-67 with five minutes to go, but the Sagehens' offense never slowed down as they put up their highest point total of the season in the win over Chapman.
