CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team defeated SCIAC opponent Whittier 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 12-8 overall and 4-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens took all three doubles against the Poets to start the contest. Jansen Comadena and Owen Kelley cleaned up at No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 win while the Poets challenged at No. 2 doubles but the team of Charlie Stark and Kush Patel held off Whittier for the 8-6 win. The Sagehens ended doubles with an 8-4 win as Matthew Feng and Nils Skattum picked up the victory at the No. 3 position.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to dominate the singles matches as well. Jack Weiler went through his match without losing a game at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-0 win while Mukund Madabhushi won comfortably at No. 3 by the scores of 6-0, 6-1.
The Sagehens went on to win No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles by the scores of 6-3, 6-1 with Kelley, Patel and Feng all earning singles wins for the Sagehens. Ending the day was the only three-set match of the afternoon as Charlie Stark won at No. 1 after dropping the first set 3-6, came back for wins of 6-1, 6-4 to complete the sweep for the Sagehens.
