CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team defeated No. 21 Redlands 9-0 on Saturday morning at Verdieck Courts.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens move to 10-8 overall and improve to 2-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens won every single match against the Bulldogs in their first big conference matchup of the season. Mukund Madabhushi and Nils Skattum got the Sagehens going with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles followed by the team of Charlie Stark and Kush Patel who won their match at No. 2 doubles, 8-4. Ending doubles for the Sagehens was the No. 1 team of Jansen Comadena and Owen Kelley who finished with an 8-4 win to give the Sagehens a 3-0 advantage heading into the singles portion of the match.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to dominate singles as well taking all six matches with just one three-set victory. Madabhushi finished off his opponent at No. 4 singles without losing a game at 6-0, 6-0 while Owen Kelley and Kush Patel followed with a pair of 6-2, 6-4 wins to put the Sagehens up 6-0 in a hurry.
Comadena then followed with his second win of the day after sweeping the first set 6-0, came back to win a tough tiebreaker to take a 7-6 win while Hayden Snyder earned his singles win at No. 1 by the scores of 6-4, 6-3.
Ending the day for the Sagehens was Stark at No. 2 who went into three sets after he dropped the first set 6-2, came back with a 6-4 win and completed the sweep for the Sagehens with a 7-5 victory as the Sagehens went on the road for a dominating performance over No. 21 Redlands.
