CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team defeated SCIAC opponent Occidental 8-1 on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens move to 9-8 overall and start out 1-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens started the day getting a win at two of the three doubles matches. Pomona-Pitzer started with a win at No. 2 doubles as the team of Kush Patel and Charlie Stark came away with an 8-1 win while Eshaan Lumba and Nils Skattum followed with an 8-3 win to put the Sagehens up 2-1 heading into singles.
Pomona-Pitzer ended with a clean sweep of singles winning all six of their matches against the Tigers. Stark continued his winning ways with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles along with his doubles partner Patel who earned a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 2.
Mukund Madabhushi earned his singles win at No. 3 by the scores of 6-0, 6-4 while Owen Kelley picked up a win at No. 4 with two wins of 6-3. The Sagehens ended the day with two more singles wins at No. 5 and No. 6 as Lumba doubled his wins on the day with a 6-4, 6-4 win at five and Roshan Morey ended the match with a 6-3, 6-3 as the Sagehens cruised to a win in their opening match of the SCIAC.
