CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team came away with an 8-1 win over non-conference opponent Mary Washington on Wednesday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 3-2 overall.
The Sagehens started the day taking doubles with two wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Jansen Comadena and Owen Kelley got the Sagehens a win at No. 1 singles 8-6 and Makund Madabhushi and Charlie Stark had a close battle at No. 2 but came away with the tight 8-7 win to give the Sagehens a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to win all six singles matches against Mary Washington. The Sagehens started with a win at No. 1 singles with Hayden Synder earning a 6-4, 6-2 win. Madabhushi doubled up on his wins for the day at No. 2 singles with a pair of 6-4 victories while his double partner Stark did the same at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-1.
Kush Patel earned his first win of the day at the No. 4 singles position with a 6-1, 6-2 win and Matthew Feng took care of his opponent in the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-3. The Sagehens got into one three-set match at No. 5 singles as Comadena won the first set 6-3 but fell in the second set 3-6 but came back with a 10-8 tie breaker win.
