Box Score PASADENA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team earned its third-straight win in conference play with an 83-62 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Caltech on Saturday afternoon.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 14-4 overall and 9-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Matthew Eberle who put up 28 points in the win. Brendan Mora also had a nice night with 19 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double while Pete Boyle was also in double digit scoring with 12.
The Sagehens were on fire from three in Pasadena as they hit on 12 of their 20 attempts for 60% from beyond the arc. The Sagehens shot 54.5% from the field, outrebounded Caltech 43-28 and had the bench outscore the Beavers 21-16.
Caltech got out to a small lead to open up the game at 7-4 but the Sagehens quickly erased that deficit and after back-to-back layups by Johnny King and Mora, the Sagehens took over the lead at 11-9 with five minutes gone in the first.
The Sagehens then began to build their first-half lead and within the next five minutes took an 11-point lead after a made three by Owen Avdalovic with 9:10 left before halftime. The Sagehens held their ground and even extended their lead late in the first half to head into the locker room with a 47-29 lead.
The Sagehens got their lead over 20 after a made jumper by Eberle to take a 54-33 lead with three minutes off the clock in the second half. The Sagehens kept their lead around 20 points for the majority of the second half as they rode their big first half to a comfortable 21-point win on the road.
