Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team ended 2022 with a 65-51 loss to SCIAC opponent Cal Lutheran on Saturday night at Gilbert Arena.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 3-7 overall and drop to 1-3 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Madison Quan and Katie Drais who shared a team-high 13 points in the loss. Emily Lee added 10 while Kaitlyn Leung added nine.
Pomona-Pitzer shot 27% from the field hitting on 31% of their threes going 9-29 from beyond the arc. Cal Lutheran shot a slightly higher clip at 38% from the field and 32% from three, but the Regals outrebounded the Sagehens 52-38 with 16 second-chance points and 36 points in the paint.
Pomona-Pitzer won the first quarter but found themselves down 8-5 midway through the first. The Sagehens rattled off seven-straight points after Leung made it 12-8 with a layup, but Cal Lutheran scored to end the first with Pomona-Pitzer taking a 12-11 lead.
Cal Lutheran started the second quarter reclaiming the lead from Pomona-Pitzer to go up 20-16 with six minutes left to play before halftime. The Sagehens went on a big run to take a 27-20 lead after a Quan three. The Regals started to chip away at the lead late in the first half and hit a three at the buzzer to cut the Sagehen lead down to 29-28 at halftime.
The third quarter belonged to the Regals after they scored a game-high 20 points in the third to take over the game from the Sagehens. Cal Lutheran scored the first nine points of the quarter to take a 37-29 lead before the Sagehens scored their first points of the quarter three minutes into the third. The Sagehens got the lead down to three points, but Cal Lutheran ended the third quarter with a run to take a 48-41 lead into the fourth.
The Sagehens got the lead down to six points midway through the fourth, but the Sagehen offense could only put up 10 points in the fourth as the Sagehens fell on the road to Cal Lutheran to end 2022.
