Sagehens Dominate La Verne At Home, 88-45

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team kept their win streak rolling with an 88-45 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent La Verne on Saturday morning at the Linde Activities Center. 

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens notched their sixth straight win and improve to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens had five players in double-digits. Leading the way was Matthew Eberle who went for a game-high 18 points. Joe Cookson notched 14, Johnny King earned a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, Brendan Mora had 11 while Peyton Mullarkey came off the bench for 10 in the win.

The Sagehens dominated every major statistical category against La Verne.  The Sagehens shot 56.3% from the field while hitting on 43.5% of their shots from three. The Sagehens outrebounded the Leopards 37-24, forced 14 turnovers, and outscored La Verne in the paint 38-10.

The game got out to a lopsided start as the Sagehens shot out of the gate with a 22-1 lead with just under 14 minutes left in the first half. The La Verne offense took some time to get going but the Sagehens continued to grow their lead and got it to a 30-point lead at 40-10 with 8:31 in the first half. The Sagehens scored 54 points in the first half and led 54-27 at the break as they shot 66.7% In the first half and hit on 8 of their 14 threes for 57.1%. 

It was more of the same from the Sagehens in the second half as they continued to build their insurmountable lead over the Leopards. The Sagehens got the lead back over 30 after a layup by King with 16:45 left to play. The Sagehen defense shut down La Verne in the second half as they only allowed 18 points and took their largest lead of the game at 45 points with 2:35 left to play as the Sagehens led 88-43. Pomona-Pitzer would go on to cruise to an easy win at home, 88-45.
