Men's tennis: Sagehens Earn A Pair Of 9-0 Wins Over Occidental And Whittier

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team came away with a pair of conference wins today as they defeated Occidental and Whittier 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

Season Impact: With the wins, the Sagehens improve to 2-1 on the year.

The Sagehens started off with a sweep of the doubles competition. Avery Bicks and Charlie Stark earned a quick win at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 win followed by Jed Kronenberg and Nils Skattum at No. 3 doubles, 8-3 and Mukund Madabushi and Jansen Comadena ended doubles at No. 2 with an 8-5 win.

The Sagehens also went on to take all six singles matches against the Tigers. Madabushi started out singles with a win at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory followed by Kronenberg at No. 1 by the scores of 6-1, 6-3.

Pomona-Pitzer went on to earn a win at No. 3 singles with Stark getting a win, 6-1, 7-5 and then Bicks followed with a win at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Ending the match for the Sagehens was Jack Brnstein at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win and then Quinn Hisohn at No. 5 singles ending the day with a win by the scores of 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.

The Sagehens doubled up their wins on the day with a 9-0 win over SCIAC opponent Whittier College.  Much like Occidental, the Sagehens took the first three doubles matches against the Poets. 

Bicks and Stark got the match started with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles followed by an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles by Kronenberg and Hayden Snyder.  The doubles ended with a win at No. 2 doubles as Comadena and Madabushi earned an 8-3 victory to give the Sagehens a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

The Sagehens dominated singles play as well as they took all 6 wins over the Poets. 

Pomona-Pitzer started with a win by Stark at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2 followed by Kronenberg at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Jack Weiler got himself a win at No. 5 singles by the scores of 6-0, 6-1 and Skattum got a singles win as well at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.

The Sagehens ended the day with wins at No. 3 and 4 singles as Snyder got a 6-4, 6-1 win and Hirsohn ended the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win.
