CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 14 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team took a tough 8-1 loss to No. 4 Middlebury College on Tuesday evening. The Panthers cruised through three straight doubles victories and clinched five singles victories to seal the match.
Season Impact: The Sagehens now hold a 11-6 record overall.
Kalyan Chadalavada and Octave Bellet dropped their no. 1 doubles match to Lubomir Cuba and Kyle Schlanger 8-5. Avery Bicks and Marko Mandic fell 8-4 in no. 2 doubles as did Sam Gearou and Jack Bernstein in no. 3.
The Sagehens looked to shake off the rough start and hoped to bounce back in singles. Unfortunately, Jed Kronenberg was dealt his second loss in singles this season, falling 6-2 and 6-1 in no. 1 to Cuba. Bellet fell in no. 2 to Schlanger 6-3 and 6-0 and Mandic dropped the no. 4 6-1 and 6-4. Sam Malech lost no. 5 by a pair of 6-3 sets and Jacob Schoenherr fell in a tight three set thriller. Schoenherr dropped the first set 6-1, but came in with a dominant 6-0 second set. However, Vanezis won the tiebreaker 10-1 to take no. 6. Josh Gearou salvaged the sole point for the Hens, edging out Nate Eazor in no. 3 6-4 and 7-6 (2).
