CLAREMONT, CA — The No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but fell to rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 7-2 Thursday evening at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: The Sagehens now move to 17-9 overall and 5-2 in SCIAC play. The Stags move to 23-2 overall and 7-0 in the conference.
Freshman Avery Bicks and junior Marko Mandic started things off for the Sagehens in the No. 3 doubles match. The pair bested Alex Brenner and Nikolai Parodi for an 8-6 win.
Senior Spencer Simonides and senior Antony Bello added to the Sagehens' lead with their victory in the No. 1 doubles match. The team scored a close win over Julian Gordy and Daniel Markovin, 8-6.
The Sagehens nearly made it a sweep in doubles play, but the Stags' Jake Berber and Glenn Hull just edged out Graham Maassenn and Jake Yasgoor in a tiebreaker 9-8 (7-5).
In singles play, Josh Kim took the first set in the No. 4 match beating Patrick Wildman 7-5. But Wildman came back to win the final two sets 7-6 (8-6), 11-9.
Next Match: The Sagehens will next take part in the three-day Ojai Tournament from Friday, April 28 through Sunday, April 30.
