PEPPER PIKE, OH — Marko Mandic and Josh Gearou scored singles wins, but the No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team fell to the No. 5 University of Chicago Maroons in the opening round of the ITA Division III National Men's Team Indoor Championship.
Chicago comes into the tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Sagehens are seeded No. 6.
Singles
Mandic grabbed a win in the No. 5 match beating Erik Kerrigan in a close match, winning in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 11-9.
Gearou made it two singles wins, beating Jaird Meyer in the No. 6 slot 3-6, won in a tie-breaker in the second set 7-6 (8-6), and won the third 10-5.
Doubles
Avery Bicks and Antony Bello had the closest doubles match for the Sagehens, but fell to Tyler Raclin and Max Hawkins 8-6.
Next Match: The Sagehens will move to the consolation semifinals against No. 11 and seventh seeded Kenyon College tomorrow at 8 a.m. eastern time.
