Men's Tennis: Sagehens Perfect in Wins Over Cal Lu and Oxy

LOS ANGELES — The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team had a busy and successful day, traveling to both Cal Lutheran and Occidental on their first day of SCIAC competition, winning 9-0 in both matches.

Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to 2-0 in SCIAC play and 3-1 overall.

Sagehens 9, Cal Lutheran 0

The Sagehens started the day in Thousand Oaks where after a short rain delay, Pomona-Pitzer swept the Kingsmen but not without some close matches. 

Doubles

Antony Bello and Avery Bicks came away with a close win in the No. 1 doubles match, beating Ransom Braaten and Dara Kashani 9-8.

Spencer Simonides and Jake Yasgoor won their match 8-6 and Marko Mandic and Quinn Hirsohn won in the No. 3 spot 8-4.

Singles

Yasgoor scored a win in his singles match, beating Braaten in the No. 1 spot 6-4, 6-1. Sam Malech scored a singles win as well, winning his match 6-0, 6-4.

Bello and Mandic each needed three sets to grab their respective wins. After dropping the first set in his match, Bello came back to win 4-6, 6-1, 10-6. Mandic beat Lucas Tilly 6-2, 5-7, 10-8.

In the No. 5 spot, Hiroshn bested Michael Sulahian 6-4, 6-2 and Jonathon Miller won his match 5-3, 6-4.

Sagehens 9, Occidental 0

Doubles

Pomona-Pitzer continued their dominance against the Tigers with Simonides and Bicks winning 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles slot.

Josh Gearou and Sam Gearou grabbed a win in the No. 2 match 8-2, and Michael Poeschla and Parth Desai took home a win in the No. 3 slot at 8-6.

Singles

The Sagehens success continued in the singles matches. Bello beat Isaiah Bird 6-1, 6-2 in the No.1 match. Josh Gearou and Sam Gearou each came away with a 6-1, 6-1 win in their respective matches. Josh Gearou won in the No. 2 slot and Sam Gearou won in the No. 5 position.

Simonides scored a win in the No. 3 match, beating William Poma 6-2, 7-6. Bicks won 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 match, and Desai won 7-6, 6-2 in the No. 6 match.

Next Match: The Sagehens take a break from SCIAC action and host Bates at home on Tuesday, February 21, at 4 p.m.
