CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Swimming and Diving team were dominant from start to finish comming away with commanding wins over Occidental and Caltech Saturday afternoon. The Sagehens beat Occidental 196-86 and Caltech 207-47.
Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to 5-0 in SCIAC dual meets. They are 7-2 overall in dual meets this season and are perfect against Division III institutions.
Individual Races
Victoria Vanderpoel got the Sagehens started off with a win in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 18:39.36. Mariah Bowman finished the race in third place (19:36.00).
Maddie Kauahi, fresh off receiving SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors, won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.26, leading the Sagehens to a 1-2-3 finish with Cayla Nishizaki taking second (2:00.90) and Eva Gontrum finishing third (2:02.68).
Kauahi scored another win in the 50 yard freestyle finishing at 24.01, followed in second by teammate Mallorie Hsu who finished at 25.62. Nishizaki won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 54.26.
Sarah Jin led Pomona-Pitzer to another sweep this time in the 100 yard backstroke. Jin won the race at 59.21, followed by Angela Ling (59.43) and Sabrina Kwan (1:01.65). Jin Also won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.45 with Ling again finishing second at 1:12.83.
Erin Bigus continued to rack up wins for the Sagehens with her performance in the 100 yard breaststroke, taking first with a time of 1:10.38. Bigus took second in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.33 and Molly Weinstock took the third spot at 2:29.71.
Victoria Agostini won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:32.05 with Hsu taking third at 5:34.61. Alex Seidel took third in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.00. Kyra Sanborn finished third in the 400 IM (4:57.87).
Relays
The Sagehens were dominant in the relay races taking the top two spots in both races. In the 400 yard medley relay, Agostini, Bigus, Jin, and Nishizaki took first place with a time of 4:06.04. Hsu, Weinstock, Kwan, and Kauahi finished second (4:10.18).
In the 200 yard freesyle relay, Nishizaki, Kauahi, Alex Seidel, and Hsu won the race with a time of 1:39.82. Bigus, Kwan, Ling, and Jin came in second with a time of 1:44.36.
Diving
Ellen Wang had a historic performances setting a Haldeman Pool record and making a NCAA cut in the three-meter with her winning score of 422.05. Wang also won the one-meter with a score of 231.10. Ali Flagsbe-Tsai took second in the one-meter with a score of 146.25, and Hannah Black finished third (144.10). Black also took second in the three-meter with a score of 158.30.
Next Meet: The Sagehens travel to Cal Lutheran next Saturday for a 10:30 a.m. meet against the Regals.
