Claremont, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's tennis team won in both of their matches with an 8-1 win over Cal Lutheran and a 9-0 win over Whittier on Saturday afternoon at Pauley Tennis Complex.
The Sagehens started off the day with their win over Cal Lutheran. Pomona-Pitzer started the match by taking two of the three doubles matches.
Graham Maassen and Spencer Simonides took a win in the No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 victory and Spencer Chiu and Thomas Low won their match in the No. 3 doubles by the score of 8-4.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to win all six of the singles matches as Jake Yasgoor won the No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-1.
Jonathan Kim won in the No. 2 singles by the score of 6-3, 6-2 and Sam Malech took care of his opponent 6-2, 6-1.
Simonides went on to win his singles as well with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, Low took down his opponent 6-3, 6-2 and Parth Desai capped off the match with a win at No. 6 by the score of 6-1, 6-3.
The Sagehens went on to sweep the Poets later In the day as they won all three doubles and all six singles matches.
The team of Yasgoor and Kim started out with a win in the No. 1 doubles 8-2 and freshman Josh Gearou and Maassen won in the No. 2 doubles 8-4. Low and Chiu capped off the doubles with an 8-2 win to take a 3-0 lead going into singles.
Maassen started off the singles with a win in the No. 1 spot at 6-1, 6-2 and Kim followed that up with a 6-4, 6-3 win in the No. 2 singles.
Malech remained perfect on the day and won in the No. 3 singles 6-2 and 3-0 before his opponent retired.
Josh Kim won his match in the No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 victory and Simonides won his match in the No. 5 singles 6-1, 7-5. Desai went on to end the day for the Sagehens with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 6 singles.
The Sagehens next take the court as they play in the Ojai Invitational on Friday, April 22nd at 9:00 a.m.
