CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's tennis team won in their second match at the ITA National Indoor Championships against Kenyon College by the score of 5-4.
The Sagehens started out by taking the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches with the team of Graham Maassen and Jonathan Kim and the team of Spencer Simonides and Marko Mandic both winning in their matches 9-8 in a tie-breaker.
The Sagehens went on to win three of the singles matches against Kenyon with wins coming in the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 spots.
Maassen won his singles match in the No. 2 spot for the Sagehens by the score of 6-1, 7-5. Kim followed that up with a win in the No. 3 spot with a 6-1, 6-4 victory and Antony Bello sealed the win for the Sagehens with a tie-breaker win 7-6, 5-7, 6-4.
The Sagehens went on to fall to Trinity later in the day in the fifth place match by the score of 6-3.
The Sagehens won the No. 1 and 2 doubles matches but fell in five of the six singles matches.
Maassen and Kim took the first match for the Sagehens as they won the No. 1 doubles by the score of 9-7. Simonides and Mandic continued their dominance in the doubles competition as they took a win in the No. 2 spot 8-6.
Pomona-Pitzer ran into some trouble in the singles matches as the lone win for the Sagehens came with Bello holding on to win the No. 4 singles match by the score of 7-5, 6-2.
The Sagehens finish the ITA National Indoor with a 1-2 record and return home to face Bates on Wednesday, February 24th at 4:00 p.m.
