Men's Tennis: Sagehens Fall To Carnegie Mellon 5-4 In First Match Of ITA National Indoors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Pomona-Pitzer men's tennis team fell in their first game at the ITA National Indoor Championships 5-4 against Carnegie Mellon.

Carnegie Mellon started out the match with the advantage in the doubles competition as they took the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. The Sagehens came back to win the No. 2 doubles slot with the team of Marko Mandic and Spencer Simonides taking a tie-breaker by the score of 9-8.

The doubles would be the difference in the final score as the Sagehens and Tartans split the singles matches. The Tartans took the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches with the three and four spots going to a third set.

Jake Yasgoor gave Pomona-Pitzer its first win in the singles competition as he swept his opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Mandic came back to also win his singles match as he took the No. 5 singles spot with a 6-1, 6-3 win.

Josh Gearou closed out the singles competition with a win in the No. 6 slot as he narrowly defeated his opponent by the scores of 7-6, 7-6.

With the loss to Carnegie Mellon, the Sagehens will go on to face the loser of match four at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
