Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball team completed the sweep against Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Occidental 64-58 on Wednesday night at Rush Gymnasium.
Freshman Corbin Koch came off the bench and led the Sagehens with 13 points and went a perfect 7-7 at the free throw line. Senior Gibson Farone-Collins and freshman Daniel Rosenbaum each tallied 11 points and Rosenbaum pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Occidental was led by Andrew Johnson who had a game-high 20 points in the loss for the Tigers.
Occidental built a 21-12 lead within the first eight minutes of the game before Pomona-Pitzer went on an 8-2 run to cut the Tiger's lead down to 23-20 with 9:06 to go in the half.
Occidental went on to maintain its lead until the end of the half as the Tigers went into the locker room with a 34-28 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer came out in the second half on fire as they jumped out on a 13-4 run to take its first lead since the 16:40 mark in the first half with a 41-38 advantage.
The Sagehens outscored the Tigers 18-8 in the first 10 minutes of the second half as they took their largest lead of the game at 52-42 after a freshman Chris Wright three-pointer with 9:42 remaining.
The Tigers responded by going on a 12-3 run to cut the Sagehens' lead down to only one point at 55-54 with only 5:43 remaining.
Pomona-Pitzer tightened up its defense down the stretch and converted on key free throws as the Sagehens were able to hold off the Tigers and sweep the season series against Occidental.
The Sagehens next take the court as they host SCIAC opponent La Verne on Saturday, February 20th at 5 p.m. at Voelkel Gymnasium.
