Baseball: Pomona-Pitzer Beats George Fox 5-1 And Concordia 8-3; Starts Season 4-0

AUSTIN, Texas – The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team leaves the Lone Star State with a perfect 4-0 record after a 5-1 win over George Fox and an 8-3 win over Concordia.

Pomona-Pitzer had a solid outing from Cameron Yen against George Fox. The senior went seven innings, struck out five batters and only surrendered one run.

Tanner Nishioka went a perfect 3-3 and reached base twice by way of walks.

George Fox got on the scoreboard first as Kyle Esquerra singled through the left side of the infield to bring home Riley McKean as the Bruins took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.

The Sagehens answered an inning later in the bottom of the third as Bryce Rogan brought home Kevin Brice on a sacrifice fly to tie the score up at 1-1.

Pomona-Pitzer broke the game open in the bottom of the eighth with RBI singles from Brice and Kevin Jordan.Simon Rosenbaum then smacked a double to bring home two more Sagehens as Pomona-Pitzer took a 5-1 lead heading into the ninth.

Tavish Towner finished off the Bruins from the mound as he picked up his first win of the year and Pomona-Pitzer moved to 3-0 on the year.

The Sagehens next turned their attention to Concordia for their last game of their Texas trip.

Brice had the hot bat against Concordia as he went 4-5 with an RBI and a triple.

The Cobbers struck first with one run in the second and one in the third to give Concordia an early 2-0 lead.

Pomona-Pitzer came back to tie the game up in the top of the fourth with an RBI from Matt Omori and a wild pitch that scored Rob Simsinman.

The Sagehens had a big seventh inning as they took advantage of some sloppy defense and scored four runs on one hit and two Condordia errors. Nishioka reached on a fielder's choice that scored Adam Hinthorne, Jordan singled home two Sagehens and Nishioka came around to score on a passed ball to give Pomona-Pitzer a 6-2 lead.

Brice tacked on one more for the Sagehens in the top of the eighth as he connected on a triple to left center to bring home Omori and Rogan added one more in the ninth as he reached safely on an error that scored Cade Hulse as Pomona-Pitzer went into the ninth with an 8-2 lead.

Concordia loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth but only got one run out of it on an RBI fielder's choice as the Sagehens won their fourth straight game.

The Sagehens next play on Friday, February 19th as they travel to rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 2:30 p.m.
