WHITTIER, Calif. – Maddie Kauahi, Angela Ling, and Sarah Jin each won two races, Ellen Wang swept the diving competition and the No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Swimming and Diving team dominated in their SCIAC opener, beating Whittier 214-85 and Chapman 221-66.
Kauahi swept the freestyle sprints winning the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.06 and the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 54.19. Cayla Nishizaki took third in the 50 yard free (25.09) and second in the 100 (55.56).
In the 200 yard freestyle, Lavinya Yap won the race (2:01.20) and Vee Vanderpoel took third (2:03.38).
Victoria Vanderpoel won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:23.87 and Kay Sterner placed second with a time of 5:29.99. Katherine Lauerman won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:56.10 and Sterner took second at 11:28.67.
Ling won the 50 yard and 100 yard backstroke. She led a Sagehens' sweep in the 50 with a time of 26.62, Victoria Agostini came in second (27.97), and Mallorie Hsu took third (28.39).
The same three finished in the top spots in the 100 backstroke with Ling winning (58.44), Hsu taking second (1:00.39), and Agostini taking third (1:00.65).
Erin Bigus won the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 31.97 and Clare Flynn took third with a time of 33.61. Bigus took second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.80) and Flynn came in third (1:12.40).
Sarah Jin won the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 26.56 and Sabrina Kwan finished third with a time of 27.63. Jin also won the 200 yard IM (2:13.82) leading a sweep for Pomona-Pitzer with Yap coming in second (2:18.57), and Bigus following in third (2:19.28).
Wang won the diving portion of the competition finishing with a score of 244.85 in the one meter and 239.45 in the three meter.
The Sagehens swept the relays in the meet. In the 800 yard freestyle, Pomona-Pitzer won with a time of 8:08.7 with a team made up of Kauahi, Sterner, Vanderpoel, and Lauerman. They won the 400 yard medley relay (4:03.78) with Ling, Bigus, Kwan and Kauahi.
