Claremont, Calif. - Two school records were set Saturday as Pomona-Pitzer's women's swimming and diving squad handily defeated Whittier, 205-83, at home in Haldeman Pool.
Pomona-Pitzer's 200 Medley Relay of Angela Ling, Mackenzie Cummings, Sarah Jin, and Maddie Kauahi (pictured) clocked 1:44.68 and broke the previous Sagehen record by over 1.5 seconds. The quartet also established a new Haldeman Pool record and made an NCAA cut mark. Ling, Cummings and Kauahi each swam the fastest 50 splits in Pomona-Pitzer history for their respective leg. The previous school record of 1:46.29 was set last season.
Frosh Ling then came back to win the 100 backstroke in a new school record of 55.69 to win by nearly three seconds over teammate Jin. Ling, who also established a new Haldeman Pool record and swam an NCAA 'B' cut, broke the old mark of 57.58 set by Mia Hahn in 2014.
Dawn Barlow scored 228.25 points on the 1-meter board to win and also earn an NCAA cut.
Pomona-Pitzer next competes in the La Verne Invitational this Saturday and Sunday, December 12-13 (10:00am both days) in Commerce, California. Pomona-Pitzer's aquatics students will then take a break for academic finals, and will resume competition Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at home against Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
