Women's Basketball Falls to Puget Sound in Wells Classic Opener

Claremont, Calif. - Despite an 18-point, 10-rebound game from Basha Brulee-Wills, Pomona-Pitzer's women's basketball team fell to the University of Puget Sound, 84-67, in the first game of the two-day David Wells Classic Friday at CMS' Linde Center. 

The Sagehens battled UPS evenly after one quarter, 15-15, and stayed within two points, 35-33, at halftime. UPS led, 58-50, after three, but Puget Sound exploded for 26 fourth quarter points to win going away.

Brulee-Wills led Pomona-Pitzer with 18 points, and Keilani Ikehara scored 13 points, including 3-6 from 3-point range. Cassandra Palmer added 12 points. Puget Sound's Emily Sheldon led all scorers with 22 points. 

Pomona-Pitzer hit 22-63 (34.9%) from the field, while Puget Sound hit a torrid 35-72 (48.6%). UPS also outrebounded the Sagehens, 51-33. 

In the second game Friday, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defeated Willamette, 69-53. Pomona-Pitzer faces Willamette Saturday at 7:00pm in the HMC Linde Center. Earlier, CMS will face Puget Sound in the 5:00pm game.
