Box Score 2 Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team defeated Dallas 3-1 and fell to No. 14 Trinity (Texas) 3-1 on the second day of the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational, hosted by Cal Lutheran on Saturday.
Set scores were 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17 in the Dallas win, and 16-25, 25-16, 16-25, 21-25 in the loss to Trinity.
With the split the Sagehens move to 6-2 on the year, after a 3-1 mark in each of their first two tournaments. Pomona-Pitzer was 3-1 at its host Pacific Coast Classic last weekend, with the only loss in five sets to Whitworth, while the Sagehens went 3-1 at the Cal Lu Invitational with wins over George Fox, Willamette and Dallas and a loss to No. 14 Trinity.
Senior All-American Allie Frappier (pictured) had 32 kills in the Trinity loss, tying the second-highest total of her career, which she achieved several times last season. Her personal best of 40 was a school record and came in a home win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps last season, tying the Division III record for a four-set match in the 25-point era.
Frappier also added 22 digs in the Trinity match, second on the team behind junior libero Michelle Schultz with 29. Freshman setter Jessica Finn had 29 assists against Trinity, while sophomore Elizabeth Sun added 16.
In the Dallas match, Frappier was withheld from the lineup and the Sagehens got contributions from many players. Sophomore Stephanie Sun had 15 kills in 33 attempts to pace the offense, while Samantha Quesada-Diaz had nine kills. Schultz added 32 digs, while nine different players had at least one block. Finn had 23 assists and Elizabeth Sun had 21.
Pomona-Pitzer will next be in action when it travels to La Verne on Saturday for its SCIAC opener, which will be followed by a non-conference match against Colorado College.
