Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team swept doubles for a 3-0 lead and went on to capture a 7-2 win over Tufts on Wednesday afternoon at Pauley Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 7-4 on the season, ending a busy stretch of six matches in six days, beginning with two on Friday on the opening day of the Stag-Hen Invitational. Tufts suffers its first defeat and falls to 3-1.
Freshman Anthony Bello (pictured) and senior Chris Wiechert won at No. 1 doubles and then both won singles matches, with Wiechert earning a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 1 and Bello capturing a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5 in his first match in the singles lineup. Sophomores Jonathan Kim and Sam Crawford continued to dominate at No. 3 doubles, earning an 8-1 win for the second day in a row (including yesterday against No. 4 Amherst).
Freshmen Jake Yasgoor and Graham Maassen played at No. 2 doubles and won 8-6, with Maassen also picking up a two-set win at No. 3 singles. Junior Connor Hudson earned a two-set win at No. 2 as well to provide the clinching point.
Pomona-Pitzer will return to action next week with back to back home matches, facing Chicago on Monday at 4 p.m. and No. 2 Williams on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
