Claremont, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Amherst Men's Tennis team won two of three doubles matches and four of six singles to take a 6-3 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday afternoon at Pauley Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Lord Jeffs improve to 6-1 on the year, while the Sagehens slip to 6-4 with the loss.
Sophomores Sam Crawford and Jonathan Kim had a dominant performance in doubles, taking an 8-1 win at No. 3, but the Lord Jeffs took the other two lines (8-2 at No. 1 and 8-5 at No. 2).
Pomona-Pitzer freshmen Graham Maassen (pictured) and Jake Yasgoor accounted for the singles wins for the Sagehens. Maassen had a strong match at No. 4, capturing a 6-3, 6-2 win over senior Justin Reindel, while Yasgoor prevailed in a tight match at No. 2, defeating senior Chris Dale 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).
Yasgoor led 6-3 in the second set tiebreaker before Dale bounced back to erase three match points. However, Yasgoor hit a low return that caused Dale to net the ensuing volley, and then won it on his ensuing serve, which was returned into the net as well.
Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action tomorrow for another match against a NESCAC foe, taking on Tufts at 10 a.m.
