Box Score La Verne, Calif. - Senior midfielder Nicole Quilliam (pictured) scored to give the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team a 1-0 lead midway through the second half, but La Verne was able to tie the score in the 79th minute as the teams played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening.
With the tie, the Sagehens are now 7-4-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the SCIAC, bouncing back from its first conference loss of the season at CMS on Wednesday. La Verne moves to 5-6-1 and 3-4-1 in the SCIAC.
Quilliam scored her goal in the 63rd minute to break a scoreless deadlock. The Sagehens had a free kick in the La Verne end of the field, and junior forward Mary Stafford was able to win the loose ball and head it forward, where Quilliam finished in front of the net with 27:38 left in the contest.
The lead held for just over 15 minutes, but with 11:26 to go, Maribel Duran was able to find the equalizer for the Leopards off a pass from Jamie Weaver. The Sagehens had a chance a few minutes later, but Taylor Fortson had a header saved by La Verne goalie Delanie Pacheco.
Shots ended up 13-10 in Pomona-Pitzer's favor, although La Verne was the fresher team at the end and had four shots in the second overtime, as the Sagehens were playing their third game in four days. Pacheco finished with five saves for La Verne, while Annie Wedel had two for the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Redlands for a 7 p.m. contest.
