Box Score Claremont, Calif. - Junior guards Kyle McAndrews (23) and Michael Cohen (pictured - 18) combined for 41 points as the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team won its seventh game in a row with an 84-63 win over Caltech on Wednesday evening at Voelkel Gymnasium.
The victory improves the Sagehens to 12-5 overall and 7-1 in the SCIAC as they have not lost since defeating Trinity (Texas) on Dec. 30. Caltech slips to 3-14 overall and 0-8 in league play with the loss.
The Beavers hung tough for a while, tying the score 14-14 just minutes into the game, and staying within 38-30 at the break. The first time the teams met back on Dec. 8, the Sagehens led 51-19 at halftime.
However, McAndrews scored 17 of his game-high 23 points after the break to help Pomona-Pitzer pull away. His fast break lay-up pushed the lead to 46-32 early in the second half, forcing a timeout from Caltech, and the Sagehens led by double figures the rest of the way.
Senior forwards John Weiss and Jake Klewer were each in double figures as well with 10 points apiece, while Weiss had eight rebounds and Klewer chipped in with six. Kc Emezie led Caltech with 14 points.
Pomona-Pitzer is back in action on Saturday when it hosts La Verne for a 5 p.m. contest.
