Sagehens Fall In SCIAC Opener At Whittier

Whittier, Calif. - The Whittier Men's Tennis team came back from big deficits to win at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles and used that momentum for an 8-1 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Friday.

Sophomore Kevin Wei (San Diego, Calif. - pictured) accounted for the only Sagehen point with a win in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 6 singles, as Pomona-Pitzer falls to 4-9 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Whittier trailed 6-3 at No. 1 singles, but rattled off five straight wins for an 8-6 win to complete the sweep of the three doubles lines. The Poets were also down 5-1 at No. 3 doubles, but battled back for an 8-6 win.

In singles, Whittier took the first set at 1-4, with freshman Thomas Low (Charlotte, N.C.) taking the first set at No. 5 in a tiebreaker, and Wei winning 6-0 at No. 6. Frank Sun took the second set at No. 6, but Wei came back for a 10-4 win in the proset tiebreaker. Low lost his third set tiebreaker 10-8.

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action tomorrow for a 10 a.m. match against Cal Lutheran.
