Men's Tennis Drops Three At Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team dropped three matches at the UC Santa Cruz Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
The Sagehens fell 8-1 to the host Banana Slugs and 6-3 to Texas-Tyler on Saturday, and then dropped a 8-1 decision to Whitman on Sunday. The losses drop Pomona-Pitzer to 1-5 on the year.
Sophomore Kevin Wei was a bright spot in the UC Santa Cruz match, as he stepped into the singles line-up for the first time this season and earned a 7-6, 6-1 win after a lengthy tiebreaker in the first set (11-9).
Senior Frankie Allinson (pictured) won at both singles and doubles against Texas-Tyler, providing the only singles point after the Sagehens won two of three doubles matches. Allinson and senior Max Sabel won at No. 1 doubles, while Wei and junior Chris Wiechert won at No. 2.
On Sunday, Sabel and Allinson provided the lone Sagehen point with a win at No. 1 doubles. Sabel went to a third set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles as well, but fell short.
Wiechert, who usually plays No. 1 singles, was held out of the singles competition against both UC Santa Cruz and Whitman to rest an injury which has had him playing less than 100 percent this spring.
Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Wednesday for a pair of home matches against Haverford at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. against Rochester.
